One of my favorite prophecies about Jesus was written 700 years before his birth. It contains some of the most wonderful names and promises about who Jesus would be for us. Every single one of them has come true!
Isaiah 9:6-7 proclaims:
“For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.
The passionate commitment of the LORD of Heaven's Armies will make this happen!”
I love this passage because it gives me a feeling of security like no other. So often, the world feels crazy and out of control. Government officials cannot be trusted and the turnover rate of their rule is frightening. It’s obvious they don’t care about people or what is best for them.
But not Jesus.
Jesus is going to rule for all time, and he will rule everywhere. His authority will never end and no one will be able to overthrow him. He will be just and righteous… always fair and good in his decisions. Perfect.
We can trust.
We can believe.
We can rest.
We can be at peace.
Jesus is in control!
In addition, no matter what is going on in your life... Jesus is all you need! He is your Wonderful Counselor when you need a listening ear and good advice. He is your Everlasting Father when you need someone to take care of you. He is your Mighty God and no one is more powerful than him- he will win your battles. He is your Prince of Peace and you can live with the assurance of his goodness, not needing to fear your future or those who intend harm.
AND… the best part is, all of those promises are forever! There is no end to his rule or his kingdom, or his love for you.
As we draw near to the day we celebrate Jesus’ birth, let’s give thanks for the awesome stability we have because of him.
Dear Prince of Peace,
You are the King of all kings and the Lord of all Lords. You will reign forever. There is no one more powerful or more good than you. I praise you today for justice and righteousness. Thank you for providing the peace and strength I need to walk this path. Thank you for coming to earth to die for me and to make a way for me to spend eternity in heaven. Thank you that no one can take that away from me. What a gift!
You alone are worthy of all the glory, all the honor, all the praise and the authority.
Amen.
