You know what I’m not especially good at?
Asking for help.
I like to do things on my own.
In my own strength.
Without assistance.
Solo.
For some reason, my default mindset says that if I can do it without help, I am strong.
Therefore, I find myself carrying loads I was never meant to carry alone.
Like on Saturday, when I made a grocery run and carried all ten bags into the house by myself… and all my boys were home. I carried that load alone and I didn’t need to.
Or for almost the entire the month of December, when I felt completely overwhelmed by all that was on my plate… and I didn’t tell anyone so I wouldn’t look like I was weak. I carried that load alone and I didn’t need to.
The truth is that we are NOT created to be self-sufficient, stand alone, independent superstars for God. Nope!
We are created to be dependent on a God who loves us, and who is waiting for us to approach him so he can come to our aid.
Psalm 121:1-8 says:
“I look up to the mountains- does my help come from there? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth! He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside you as your protective shade. The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night. The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life. The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.”
Psalm 46:1-3 agrees:
“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea. Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!”
God wants us to live in total dependence on him! He wants to help us, protect us, guide us and direct us- every single day. He has more than enough power and strength to accomplish anything that comes our way.
The good news is this- Sweet Sister, you don’t have to carry your burdens alone today.
Or Ever!
God wants you to come to him every morning and ask for his help. Relying on him and asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but of strength.
So… here’s my question: what have you been trying to do on your own that you can ask God for help with today? Is it facing your anxiety and kicking it to the curb? Or maybe needing his guidance about an important decision instead of relying on your own wisdom? Maybe you have a child who is following the wrong path and you feel hopeless about their future?
Whatever it may be, can I invite you to humble yourself before the King of Kings and ask for his help?
Heavenly Father,
You alone are Sovereign over all creation! You reign Supreme. There is nothing too difficult for you. I come before you this morning and confess that I have been trying to do life on my own, in my own strength. I am sorry for being so independent. I bow before you and declare my need for your help in my life. I can’t do it on my own. Please send your Spirit to be with me today, to accomplish your plan with your power and help. I need you. Thank you for loving me so much and helping me always.
Amen
You are not alone and you don’t have to do it alone! God is your constant helper. And… you have a tribe here at RCC’s that is committed to praying for and helping you too. Simply reach out and we are happy to come alongside you.
We are better together.
❤️Mint
PS if you need a fun song so remind you of God’s great help… listen to Toby Mac’s “Help is on the Way.” It’s my boys fav song ever.
