To have a grandma is to have a great treasure.
It’s a treasure I would not trade for anything.
This past week, my sweet Grandma went to be with Jesus.
While my heart cannot even imagine a world without her in it, I am so thankful she is in glory.
As I reflect on all of the years I got to love and be loved by her, this is what she modeled for me:
1. Family first
2. Live simply but generously.
3. Traditions matter.
4. Gentleness and faithfulness are beautiful.
5. Never underestimate the power of showing up, even if you have to drive many hours.
6. Treats make everything more fun.
7. Be steadfast in your faith, no matter what happens.
8. Laughter really is good medicine.
My Grandma was truly a treasure.
And she knew what really mattered… she stored up heavenly treasures.
She lived out this verse in Matthew and I know she had a huge welcoming party when she entered heaven. In fact, one of the last things she said to her nurse was “do you know my Jesus?”
Matthew 6:19-21 says:
“Don't store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
People are the greatest treasure.
People are all we get to take with us when this life ends.
I don’t know about you, but I want to be rich in heaven… I want everyone I know to be there.
May I live with the same focus and selfless love that my Grandma did and may I forever ask people,
“Do you know my Jesus?”
Love you, Tama. I miss you already. I am so glad this is “see you later” and not “goodbye.” Thanks for showing me how to get rich in the best way possible.
Sweet friends, we are not guaranteed tomorrow. No one knows what day or time will be their last. Can I invite you to store up treasures in heaven like my sweet grandma? Bring all of the people with you that God puts in your path.
Ask someone today if they know your Jesus… and build up your treasure.
