Daily Devotionals

Earlier this week, I was listening to a Christian conversation about marriage.
Radio host Jim Daly from Focus on the Family interviewed a husband and wife who were sharing their raw and vulnerable story.
They spoke about going through different challenging times in their marriage and how their viewpoints varied. It was very relatable as many marital trails are.
Then they got to the good part – The part where God really stepped in!
Both the husband, Dave, and the wife, Anne, got to a point where God had them look at themselves in the mirror. They finally stopped blaming the other person and took responsibility for where THEY were.
This concept was not new to me but Anne’s realization was! Take a look at what she said she felt God say to her
“Anne, you’ve had your eyes so much fixed on Dave that you’ve taken them off me. I never equipped Dave or made Dave to meet all of your needs. That’s my job. You’ve been looking to him to meet all of your needs and you need to come back to me and put your eyes, and your focus, and your life, in my hands and trust. Quit trying to find your happiness only from him.”
WOW
Are any other wives jumping in Anne's boat with me?
I am so guilty of this. Growing up in a family of many, many divorces, protecting my marriage has always been a top priority for me. If I’m honest, I can get so wrapped up in trying to keep our relationship “perfect” to keep the trials and heartache away which can often leave me looking to my spouse instead of God.
But my relationship with my husband, Ben, is a horizontal relationship that is only truly strengthened when our vertical relationships with God are the first focus.
Maybe you’re not married or this struggle doesn’t resonate with your husband. I then challenge you to ask yourself who or what IS keeping you from going to God?
Join me here by filling in the blanks below…
“(Say your name), you’ve had your eyes so much fixed on _______ that you’ve taken them off me. I never equipped or made ______ to meet all of your needs. That’s my job. You’ve been looking to _______ to meet all of your needs and you need to come back to me and put your eyes, and your focus, and your life, in my hands and trust. Quit trying to find your happiness only from _____.”
If someone, or something, came to mind, share this conviction with your Heavenly Father today. He can carry your weight and guide you into something NEW!
Fix your eyes on Him!
