Under His Wings

Lots of thoughts are swirling in the tired old brain today. It’s been one day since the assassination attempt on President Trump, and it’s just over 60 years since President Kennedy was assassinated. As a high school senior, I remember how end-of-the-world I felt back then. My safe little world no longer seemed so safe; life became more precarious and scary.

One inch was the difference between life or death for President Trump yesterday. Without that slight movement of his head, his eternity would have been locked in.

There will be investigations. Speculations. Accusations. Denials. We likely will never know who all the players were or the extent of their evil intent. But here are two things we can be absolutely sure of:

1.      satan is constantly at work to kill and destroy and, as one writer put it, “the darkness is growing evermore.”

   2.  Our God has already overcome the world and all its evil.

Life this side of eternity has always been precarious. Following his crucifixion and resurrection, Jesus was about to return to his Father, so he had a serious heart-to-heart with his disciples. As recorded in John 16, he told them many things, including “…the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.” He then assured them that his leaving them behind is really for their good because they would be given the Holy Spirit to be with them. “I have told you these things,” Jesus concluded, “so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Talk about bad news/good news!

Nothing’s changed. Life this side of eternity will always be precarious. And frankly, even more scary times are ahead. But Sisters! our Heavenly Father really has overcome all the evil the enemy can throw at us. Remember months back when we talked about Psalm 91:4? Here’s a reminder: “He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.”

We don’t have to go it alone! When we submit to our Father and depend on him — and him alone — he PROMISES to faithfully guard our very souls.

For each of us, the other side of eternity may be as close as one inch away … or one heartbeat … or even years away. And so because it is time to be serious, I must ask: Have you repented and asked Jesus to save you? And secondly, are you living out your faith?

Remember, your RCC Sisters are here to listen and pray.

Blessings — Mary Ann
