Good Morning!
Last weekend, my family and I traveled to Manson City, Iowa, for a barrel race. The girls raced for three days in a row, and I have to say, being in the arena watching them is my absolute favorite place to be! They love it so much, and seeing their passion brings me so much joy.
The anticipation leading up to their runs was huge—they could hardly wait to get into the arena. Josh, their amazing coach, executed everything perfectly, from their preparation to the timing of their runs. On Sunday, Cora was the last one to run, and of course, she was beyond excited. Josh had her all ready in the warm-up pen, and she was third in the drag. But just as they got to her number, they announced that she was a scratch.
Josh ran up to the gate attendant, saying, "She’s right here!" But they said she hadn’t checked in, so she couldn’t run. We tried to pay and enter her at the end, but they wouldn’t let us. You can just about imagine the amount of disappointment and tears for Cora, and I felt it too. But after comforting her and unsaddling her horse, Josh said something that brought me so much peace, “Cora wasn’t supposed to be in that arena today. God was protecting her!”
I get emotional just writing this because it was so true, and in that moment, a peace washed over me like never before.
So today, I want to extend those same words to you. When you face disappointment, instead of seeing it as a setback, try to see it as a blessing and protection from our almighty God.
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:2).
