Daily Devotionals

I was talking with a mentor last week about some decisions that my family needs to make and I was also asking for her advice. My husband and I had been praying and discussing options for weeks, but the solution just didn’t seem clear to us. When that happens, we like to seek wise counsel.
Have you ever been there? Where the problems feel complicated and no solution seems great?
My mentor displayed some amazing wisdom in her response to my questions. First, she asked me:
1. What has God been doing in your life lately where you can see fruit?
2. Where does there seem to be joy in your day?
3. Are there any patterns you can see concerning opportunities that come your way?
After I had answered these, she explained why she asked those questions and quoted Psalm 16:5-11:
“LORD, you alone are my inheritance, my cup of blessing. You guard all that is mine.
The land you have given me is a pleasant land. What a wonderful inheritance!
I will bless the LORD who guides me; even at night my heart instructs me.
I know the LORD is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
No wonder my heart is glad, and I rejoice. My body rests in safety.
For you will not leave my soul among the dead or allow your holy one to rot in the grave.
You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.”
“Look for the path of life.” She told me. “Verse 11 says the Lord will show us the path of life. So, look for signs of life. That’s why I asked those three questions. The answers will show you signs of life. When you don’t know what to do, ask God to show you the path of life. Then, go that direction.”
Isn’t that amazing?
Look for the path of life!
Sweet friend, where has God been showing up in your life? Where do you see fruit? What is bringing you joy? Where are there new opportunities?
Pray and think about the answers and then move that direction… Because God is already moving there!
He goes before you and he will guide you on the path of life.
That advice really helped my husband and I as we processed our future. We want to do the good work God has for us to do. By looking for the path of life, we were able to pinpoint where God is opening doors and bringing fruit and we made our decisions based on what we see him already doing. It was just the “next step” we needed.
If you find yourself unsure of what comes next, can I invite you to look for the path of life?
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for being such a good and gracious God. Thank you for leading me on the path of life and showing me the way to go. Please give me eyes to see where you working and give me the courage to move in that direction. Wherever you lead, I will follow.
Amen.
We are better together! And we at RCC are here to talk and pray if you ever need a listening ear.
