Not alone!
It’s that time of year when Facebook is chock full of precious first-day-of-school photos. So being a slave to conformity, I searched the archives for this gem: Five-year-old me heading to my first day of first grade. (Don’t judge the outfit — there was no Rachel to style me, but I do believe my minty green and gray lunch box was the perfect accessory.)
Even after all these years — let’s not dwell on how many — I distinctly remember being scared because I felt alone and didn’t really grasp what I was getting into. (My brother was headed to 9th grade, so he was no help.)
Then I walked … alone … into my classroom and found it packed with kids I didn’t know. Except for one. When I saw my friend Ivy, I knew I wasn’t alone anymore, and this whole school thing might not be so bad after all.
A week from this evening we’ll be starting a new Bible study at Rachel’s Closet — diving into Ephesians to be exact — and for those of us who have endured a month-long break it will be like a family reunion. For those who are new to the tribe, you won’t feel alone very long because you have come to the right place.
When it comes to gatherings of women seeking to learn more about Jesus, “we are better together” isn’t just a motto or catchy saying, it’s a truth. And whether you’re with us at RCC or in another part of the state or country, being part of a Jesus-seeking group that makes you feel right at home can make all the difference. Because, face it, Sisters, do we know what lies ahead? Nope. Honestly, are we at least a bit scared? Yup. Do we want to go it alone? Nope.
Our Good, Good Father knows how important a Christ-centered group can be for us. In fact, He joins us! ”For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20
And what do we all do when we get together? “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:24-25
Motivation, acts of love, good works and encouragement with Jesus. Oh, and the virtual certainty of snacks! It just doesn’t get any better. See you at Bible study?
