“Of greater worth than gold”
I’ve been praying for a friend who just lost her husband to cancer. Their journey has been equally inspirational as it has been heartbreaking to watch.
We ache for my friend and her children. We also praise God that they are leaning into their faith and the community of believers, determined to glorify God through each step. They have stood so strong in their faith, and also let God be their strength in their human weakness. I’ve witnessed them faithfully proclaim powerful spiritual truths while they honestly acknowledge the pain and heaviness of it all.
I’d like to share Gods Word from my scripture reading this morning with you because it felt so pertinent to the situation that this dear family is going through. Perhaps it will encourage you in your life as well. God sees you.
1 Peter 1:3-7
“In His great mercy, He has given us new birth into a Living Hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade— kept in heaven for you— who through faith are shielded by God‘s power, until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed. In this, you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief and all kinds of trials. These have come so that your faith— of greater worth than gold, which perishes, even though refined by fire— may be proved genuine and may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.”
This brother in Christ, who is now in heaven and free from suffering, referenced in one of his Caringbridge journals “for me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” echoing the words of Paul in Phil 1:21
Just Wow.
May we all live with that perspective - either way we win! If God blesses us with another day of life, may we fully live FOR him by following His ways and trusting His care. And if we die, we will forever be in His perfect peaceful presence. As believers, either way, we win!
Like the scripture above states, our faith is of greater worth than gold.
I’m going to keep praying that this family will continue to cling to Jesus Christ, their Living Hope. I’m praying that same clinging for each of you sisters reading this today as well…
Your faith of greater worth than gold.
